About

One eye is why it wows.

Mismatched is Alex James and his network of photographers, filmmakers, designers, developers and other people behind cameras. Alex decides how it all looks, so the reel, the photos and the poster look like one band. He is your one point of contact and the only person you deal with.

Alex grew up on a small farm in Afton, Minnesota. He studied graphic design at Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, then taught himself photography and video. In 2023 he went to his first house show, and the bands playing liked what he shot. When they offered to pay for it, he started Mismatched. He now books live music as well as filming it.

The hands

Who’s on the crew.

One person can’t cover a full show night, and a music video takes more skills than any one person has. So the crew changes from job to job. Alex is the one constant.

  • Filmmakers Live sets, reels, music videos, full-set films.
  • Photographers Show nights and band photos, graded to match the video.
  • Designers Posters, title cards, table cards, print.
  • Developers The sites everything else points to, like this one.

The proof

See it all together at a show.

Come to the Revue, every other Thursday in Saint Paul.

I've worked with Alex for three years and he's really helped build my portfolio by providing a variety of projects to work on. He also helped me pick up on how to better navigate client-contractor relationships as an emerging creative.
